N Emissions Webinar series

Reducing emissions associated with the production and usage of nitrogenous fertilisers

Fertilizer Australia and the International Fertiliser Society jointly organised a programme of three online events in 2023. These took place in late June and early July.

The production and use of nitrogen (N) fertilisers can cause significant GHG emissions. In Australia and Europe, the likelihood of increased government regulation brings into sharp focus the need for researchers, agronomists and farmers to reduce emissions associated with N fertiliser use while producing the food and fibre we need.

In response, Fertilizer Australia and the International Fertiliser Society (IFS) organised a series of three webinars looking into greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the production and use of N fertilisers under the diverse conditions in Australia and Europe.

The webinar dates and topics were:

  • Tuesday 20 June 2023 - Overview of the role of N for food and fibre production and the implications of this for GHG emissions.

  • Wednesday 28 June 2023 - Carbon footprint of N fertilisers before they reach the farm

  • Wednesday 5 July 2023 - Current GHG emissions policy environment and implications for Best Management PracticesWednesday 5 July 2023 - Current GHG emissions policy environment and implications for Best Management Practices
